Nether Portal Coordinate Calculator
One block in the Nether covers eight blocks in the Overworld. To link two portals, the Nether portal needs to sit at one-eighth of the Overworld coordinates — otherwise the game builds a new portal somewhere you did not expect.
Enter coordinates below to convert either direction. Y (height) stays the same between dimensions, so only X and Z need converting.
How to use
- Enter the X and Z of your Overworld portal.
- Read the Nether coordinates and build a portal there.
- Or enter Nether coordinates to find the matching Overworld spot.
- Light both portals and confirm they link instead of spawning new ones.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Nether to Overworld ratio?
- Eight to one horizontally: one block travelled in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld. Multiply Nether X and Z by eight for the Overworld, or divide Overworld X and Z by eight for the Nether.
- Does Y change between dimensions?
- No. Height stays the same, so you only convert X and Z. You can build the Nether portal at a convenient Y as long as X and Z line up.
- Why do my portals link to the wrong place?
- If a portal is not within range of a correctly-scaled counterpart, the game creates a new one at the nearest valid spot. Convert the coordinates with the ratio above and build the partner portal close to that point.
